【Japan's Finest Teapot Clay, in Its Purest Form】Banko Ware Kyusu Teapot Simple 330ml | Made in Japan
■ Product Features
Banko ware, produced in Yokkaichi city in Mie Prefecture, is considered by many Japanese tea connoisseurs to be the finest clay for making kyusu teapots. The distinctive purple clay — known as shidei — contains naturally occurring iron minerals that interact with the tannins in Japanese green tea, subtly mellowing the astringency and bringing out a rounder, sweeter flavour than the same tea brewed in a porcelain or glass vessel.
This simple kyusu exemplifies the Banko aesthetic philosophy: function first, ornament secondary. The unglazed clay body is left in its natural state, allowing the purple-brown shidei clay to speak for itself. The form is clean and balanced — a round body, a side-mounted handle positioned for natural right-hand pouring, and a precisely fitted lid.
The built-in clay strainer — a series of small holes pressed into the clay at the base of the spout — is a traditional Banko feature that filters tea leaves naturally without the need for a separate metal strainer.
At 330ml, this teapot is ideal for one generous serving or two smaller cups — the classic Japanese single-person brewing size.

■ Contents
1 Banko ware kyusu teapot (330ml) with built-in clay strainer, simple design, shidei purple clay
■ Key Ingredients / Materials
Unglazed Banko shidei (purple clay) from Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture — naturally iron-rich clay; traditional clay strainer pressed into spout base; fitted clay lid
■ How to Use
1. Season before first use by filling with green tea and allowing to cool, then discarding
2. Add loose green tea leaves directly to the pot body
3. Pour hot water at 70-80°C for sencha, 80-90°C for hojicha
4. Steep for the recommended time and pour slowly through the clay strainer
5. After use, rinse with plain water only — do not use soap on unglazed clay
6. Allow to dry thoroughly with the lid off before storing
■ Precautions
· Do not use soap or detergent — unglazed clay absorbs flavours and chemicals
· Rinse with water only after each use
· Dry completely between uses to prevent mould
· Do not place on a gas flame or electric hob
· Minor surface variation in the clay is natural
