【1,000 Years of Tokoname Fire — The Red Clay Kyusu That Defines Japanese Tea】Tokoname Ware Shudei Kyusu 500cc | Made in Japan
■ Product Features
Tokoname ware, produced in Tokoname city in Aichi Prefecture, is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns — ceramic traditions that have burned continuously for over a thousand years. Of all the things Tokoname produces, its most celebrated creation is the shudei kyusu: a teapot made from the distinctive red clay that the region draws from deep beneath the Chita Peninsula, fired at high temperature to produce the deep crimson surface that Japanese tea lovers have cherished for centuries.
The shudei clay contains naturally occurring iron compounds that are believed to interact beneficially with the tannins in Japanese green tea, mellowing bitterness and promoting a softer brew. The clay's natural porosity also means it gradually absorbs the teas brewed within it, developing character that reflects your personal tea preferences.
The mesh filter fitted inside the spout is a Tokoname speciality — a fine web of clay pressed holes that filters even very small tea leaves, producing a clean and smooth pour.
At 500cc, this is a generously sized kyusu — suitable for brewing for two or three people, or for anyone who enjoys a large pot of tea.

■ Contents
1 Tokoname ware shudei kyusu teapot (500cc) with fine clay mesh filter, classic design, Aichi Prefecture craft
■ Key Ingredients / Materials
High-fired Tokoname shudei (red clay) from Chita Peninsula, Aichi Prefecture — iron-rich clay; traditional fine clay mesh filter pressed into spout; precisely fitted shudei lid
■ How to Use
1. Season before first use: brew a pot of green tea, discard, and allow to air dry
2. Add green tea leaves directly to the teapot body
3. Pour water at 70-80°C for standard sencha
4. Brew for 45-60 seconds for the first infusion — the same leaves can be used 2-3 times
5. Pour completely into cups to prevent over-steeping
6. After use, rinse with plain water only — no soap
7. Store with lid off to allow the clay to breathe and dry completely
■ Precautions
· Never use soap or detergent — shudei clay absorbs everything
· Water rinse only after each use
· Dry thoroughly between uses — do not store with lid on while damp
· Do not microwave or place on any heating element
· The clay will darken with regular use — this is normal and desirable
